Is there a more iconic rally car than the Subaru Impreza WRX? Perhaps only the Mitsubishi Evolution comes close but there is no denying the fact that when you ask someone to picture a rally car, they will likely conjure up an image of a blue WRX (with gold wheels, of course) at full noise tearing through a forest stage. You can’t help but smile.
Such is its hero status, the WRX remains a highly sought after weapon of choice when it comes to the sport of rallying and this particular 2006 Spec C is a superb example of Subaru’s famed racer.
Built by rallying experts Maximum Motorsport in WA, the STI has an enviable specification list and has been maintained with no expense spared. Motorsport Australia log booked, the car would be suitable for someone wanting to compete either at a state or national level and would no doubt put the driver at the pointy end of the field given its accomplishments to-date.
The current owner has enjoyed the WRX for the past five years and has competed in a number of rounds of the WA Rally Championship as well as a handful of Targa events – a testament to the car’s versatility. Prior to acquiring the car in 2019, his workshop Japline Subaru maintained the WRX from 2014-2018 and to say that he knows the car intimately would be an understatement. It goes without saying that this really is a case of a “no expense spared” exercise… all you need to do is review the specification list to see the amount of time, money and effort that has gone into the car to-date, starting with what is essentially a brand new EJ20 engine mated to a Modena 6 speed sequential gearbox.
